First Generation Week News Today

Nearly one-fourth of all students who attend the University of Kentucky are first-generation students. This means that their parent(s) or guardians did not complete a four-year college or university degree. At the university, not only do we welcome these trailblazers with open arms, but we also provide them with the resources needed for them to thrive. In doing so, UK proudly celebrates National First-Generation Week, hosted by the Office for Student Success. 

First-Generation Week will showcase the many different perspectives of students, faculty and staff who are the first in their family to go to college.

Dominique DiSpirito, a University of Maine junior dedicated to strengthening communities through environmental policy, is a finalist for a 2021 Harry S. Truman Scholarship. The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards its prestigious, merit-based scholarships to juniors pursuing public service careers.
