FORT HARRISON â The Montana Military Museum plans to host the First Special Service Force Association in 2022 to remember its service and mural at Fort Harrison. Work needs to be done to the mural before showcasing it to the conference.
During World War II, the Fort Harrison Servicemen s Club was used by units who were training for combat at the Fort. The building currently serves as a large training classroom and social space. It hosts about 10,000 personnel every year.
Tucked away in the back is a mural celebrating the First Special Service Force and those who served during World War II.

washington. in 1942 this group of men lumberjacks, miners and hunters who volunteered to be part of the first special service force, a joint canadian and american team so feared by enemies they became known as the devil s brigade. i certainly didn t feel like a devil, did you? no, i was too young to be a devil by then. they would be highly trained and highly motivated and pushed upon limits and endurance of ordinary troops. highly trained group of 1800 men, they killed 35 18 men. this is the first time that two countries joined together in one military operation with one command point and not having two separate commands and two separate troops. now a bipartisan group of 53
