Giving evidence on the Arctic
This week, Fitzwilliam Fellow, Dr Richard Powell, has been giving evidence to the House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Select Committee Inquiry into Environmental Diplomacy.
Dr Powell is currently a Reader in Arctic Studies, and the Principal Investigator in a five-year Arctic Cultures project, undertaken at the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge.
Select Committees work in both UK Houses of Parliament and those in the Commons are primarily concerned with examining the work of government departments. There is a Commons Committee for each government department, and they focus their enquiries upon three key areas: spending, policies and administration. Dr Powell’s evidence was submitted to the House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Select Committee, as part of their inquiry into Environmental Diplomacy.
