Five Britons released from Russian detention in Ukraine after a prisoner swap have arrived back safely in the UK.

Two of five Britons released after being detained by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine have told supporters they got out of the danger zone....by the skin of our teeth.

Five British nationals held by Russian-backed forces are being returned to their families.

Liam Sweeney, 28, Richard Mayne, 20, Glenn Thomas, 49, John Alder, 63, and 20-year-old Ben Pocock were ruled to have been unlawfully killed after their bodies were repatriated to Britain.

It was not immediately clear who the freed British nationals were or when they were detained by the Taliban but British journalist Peter Jouvenal, 64, is among those being held by the group.

The Foreign Office says the UK nationals' travel to Afghanistan was a "mistake" and against advice.
