Flintshire council to approve school admissions arrangements for next year

OVERSUBSCRIPTION at Flintshire secondary schools is expected to continue due to parental preference. Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve school admissions arrangements for 2022/23 when it meets on Tuesday, March 16. The annual consultation exercise with school governors, diocesan authorities and neighbouring councils took place during December and January and no comments were received. It covered the full admission arrangements including the admissions policy, oversubscription criteria, the timetable for admissions and admission numbers (ie the maximum number of pupils to be admitted by the admissions authority into each year group). In Flintshire, the vast majority (around 96%) of parental preferences continue to be met with a relatively low number of appeals.

Childcare in Flintshire to benefit from £5 million funding boost

A FLINTSHIRE MS has welcomed the news that millions will be invested in the county’s childcare and education facilities. Flintshire County Council has confirmed that following successful applications to the Welsh Government, over £5 million will be spent on local facilities. The funding will be used to improve facilities at ten primary schools across the County, meaning that childcare provision can be offered alongside early years education. This will mean families who access the Welsh Government s Childcare Offer, only have to attend one location, providing seamless and consistent childcare. Pleased with announcement, Delyn MS Hannah Blythyn said: Having facilities fit for the 21st century plays a huge part in providing good quality education and childcare, so this is fantastic news for children and families across Flintshire.
