St Augustine s Ximenez-Fatio House Museum shows Black history exhibit

As part of Black History Month, St. Augustine s Ximenez-Fatio House Museum will launch a new exhibit called “I Lived Here, As Well,” highlighting African Americans who may have spent their entire lives in this 1800s boarding house, yet never used the front door. The exhibit and accompanying tour begins Saturday and continues through the end of February. The display encompasses a timeline from 1806 through 1934, and includes historical photos showing Black men and women who worked at the Ximenez-Fatio House.  Archivist/Curator Taryn Rodriquez-Boette was assisted by staff member Cheyenne Koth and Flagler College intern Lily Hayward in compiling research for the exhibit, including memoirs by Mary Ann Murray, a former St. Augustine enslaved woman who tells the story of the Emancipation Proclamation against the backdrop of events occurring in St. Augustine at the time.
