with her and a certain dude getting more friendly. picture. uh-huh. first, tropical storm isaac well on its way to becoming a category 2 hurricane. and then setting its sights on new orleans. yes, indeed. isaac is packing 65 mile-per-hour winds this morning, churning now west of florida. the gulf coast, meanwhile, is bracing for up to 15 inches of rain. hurricane warnings issued from the florida panhandle all the way westward to new orleans where the storm is expected to blow ashore come wednesday morning. as isaac approaches the governors of alabama, mississippi and louisiana have all declared states of emergency at this point. officials in louisiana have already issued evacuation orders, in fact, for more than 50,000 folks in saint charles parish, conditions expected to worsen over the next 24 hours. parts of south florida already have gotten 10 inches of rain. we have more on this now from abc s matt gutman. reporter: here in south florida, millions pummelled by lashing wind

straight-line winds. the national weather service will be out to assess the damage later on this morning. there was also quite a bit of flooding across the area. record rainfall in atlanta, more than 2 inches, and that flooded the streets across much of the area. and this happened, unfortunately, during that rush hour drive home. this is a picture of interstate 85 where cars were actually getting stuck in the water and just caused total mayhem on some of the interstates yesterday afternoon. now, the storm system has continued to cause problems at this hour. the severe weather threat still out there. as we take a look at the national map, we ll show you where we have the watches in effect now. this thing stretches from montreal all the way down to florida. the tornado watches from north carolina on through virginia, up towards the delmarva region. and these should expire by about 10:00 this morning as some of the energy from the storm.
