FLORIDA Duke Energy is investing $734,000 worth of grants across the state that will help students of minority communities and women to prepare for employment in the energy sector, according to a news release. These grants support vital programs and help develop a diverse workforce needed to strengthen our communities and economies today and in the future. Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, said.
One of this year s recipients is the University of South Florida and its Call Me MISTER initiative aimed at increasing the number of Black male teachers in local elementary schools. The university is receiving a $50,000 grant from Duke.
