It’s now been a year since I began this weekly column. I am grateful for the opportunity. When I suggested the idea to Jean Ann Miller, our tireless editor, she readily embraced it. The idea was based on a radio show that I used to host in Asheville, NC, called Wild Heart. I interviewed people in the community, inviting them to share their stories their dreams and challenges, their way of life.
As with this column, it was a weekly endeavor. It kept me on task, finding a guest for each show. Only once, did someone not show up. I’d had a funny feeling before I left for the station that day and so grabbed my binder of poetry in case I might need it.
Mason follows the green lights in life

One of my favorite lines is, “We make the path by walking it.” It summarizes a poem by Anthony Machado, an early 20th century Spanish poet. I recently had conversation with someone that does just that… by way of green lights.
When I met up with Jacob Mason of Lincoln, IL, he was excited to be interviewed. “Usually, I’m the one doing the interviewing,” he said. Jacob captures stories through film creating videos for weddings, families, businesses, and real estate.
Videography is just one of many things that he does. For someone as young as he is, in his late 20s, Jacob has worn a lot of hats. His path has been made by moving on the ‘green lights’ a concept he recently came upon in a book called Green Lights, by Matthew McConaughey.
