Neighbors in Oakland are offering opinions and expectations for the city's next police chief.

Three people were injured Sunday morning in an Oakland shooting, police say.

A bounty hunter shot and killed a wanted fugitive in Newark on Tuesday, according to police.

Floyd Mitchell, hired after 25 years of service with the Kansas City police and a more recent, four-year stint as chief in Lubbock, Texas, will be the latest to serve full-time as the top cop in Oakland, a city that has seen several chiefs come and go over the past decade, including two separate occasions where three different chiefs were appointed in a single week.

Whoever is selected by the volunteers on the Oakland Police Commission would next be assessed by Mayor Sheng Thao.
