W Paris sanctuary hearing set

Read Article WEST PARIS Three public hearings will be held at the Ring-McKeen Post 151 American Legion Hall on Thursday April, 8. Resident Robert Carey asked selectmen to sign the resolution at a select board meeting in March, but town officials agreed that they should get input from the public before making any decisions. The language of the resolution says the town would “provide sanctuary from law enforcement attempts to enforce any and all state and federal mandates and restricted laws enacted that would violate the original intent of protections given individuals under the United States Constitution as well as the State of Maine Constitution that states ‘shall never be questioned.”

The ordinance basically states that farmers are free to sell what they grow directly to consumers at their farms. The preamble of the ordinance states that people, “have the right to produce, process, sell, purchase and consume local foods, thus promoting self-reliance, the preservation of family farms and local food traditions.”
