The Marine Corps is mulling future amphibious concepts and platforms, even while a Pentagon study on the near-term acquisition of amphib ships is ongoing.

Marine Corps Systems Command has begun fielding the new Ultra Light Tactical Vehicle, or ULTV, reaching initial operational capability and marking a significant milestone in the Corps’ Force Design 2030 modernization efforts.

The Marine Corps is shrinking all infantry battalions to 811 troops by Sept. 1, the service announced Monday as part of an annual update of its Force Design restructuring.

Importantly, Ukrainian officials deny that the maneuver is underway.

The USMC is seeking air-launched swarming munitions as well as multi-domain reconnaissance and C2 systems to boost its frontline force.

The Marines want long-range loitering munitions to launch from their helicopters and from the ground, as part of their Force Design 2030 modernization.

Lt. Gen. Karsten Heckl, the Marine Corps' top requirements officer, predicted Force Design 2030 would only be accelerated if Gen. Eric Smith is confirmed as the new top Marine.

The Marines want long-range loitering munitions to launch from their helicopters and from the ground, as part of their Force Design 2030 modernization.
