A special commission of inquiry that is looking into unsolved anti-LGBTQI hate crime deaths in Sydney between 1970 and 2010, will this week examine the cases relating to the murders of seven gay men.

A special commission of inquiry heard that a lack of resources halted a 2014 reinvestigation into around 88 unsolved suspected anti-LGBTQI hate crime deaths in Sydney. 

First Mardi Gras has called on the Board of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to "review the inclusion of an official Police entry in the 2023 Mardi Gras parade".

NSW Police had claimed that the special commission of inquiry into anti-LGBTQI hate crime deaths in Sydney, was not required to analyse or review the sufficiency or adequacy of earlier reports, including its landmark Strike Force Parabell report.
