The licence cancellation can have a debilitating effect on Covid-19 relief efforts

The Supreme Court on Monday posted for hearing on January 25 on a plea challenging the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs by which it had cancelled or refused to renew the registration of around 6,000 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.

There were 22,762 FCRA-registered organisations till December 31, 2021. On January 1, the number came down to 16,829.
