EAST COUNTY
Border patrol agents found and rescued three migrants lost on Otay Mountain earlier this week after smugglers abandoned the trio in the chilly and rugged terrain, the federal agency said Friday.
About 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mexican officials reached out to the Border Patrol’s Foreign Operations Branch and told them that group was stranded on the mountain, east of Otay Mesa and just north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
The smuggler who’d guided the group across the border had sneaked away while they were sleeping, the U.S. Border Patrol said in a news release. The agency did not say how Mexican officials learned of the situation.
