Julies life insurance. sergeant joe snodgrass was sentenced to life in a military prison without parole. lucy was convicted by a philippine court and sentenced to only one year in prison. her two uncles served similar sentences. the third man involved in the murder has never been found. >> this was the first case where digital evidence and the term forensics were put in the same sentence. computer crime investigation was not a forensics discipline until we put these diskettes back together. >> o...

The man who killed kevin rice. >> vincent holmes, he was a street kid. late teens. he was friends with william buck, hung out at the auburn manor apartment complex. really had a flat affect, borderline functioning intellectually. just a street kid with really no purpose in life. >> not surprisingly, when holmes was questioned, he pointed the finger at william buck. this created a problem. could forensics prove who pulled the trigger? several residents at the auburn manor apartments saw william b...

Terms of the investigation. what often happens -- you saw it with the first video that came out. something occur that is draws an individuals attention. by the time they pull out their phone and begin to record a lot of what led to that incident has already transpired. you dont get the full picture. if you had a body camera though you would get it from start to finish. and that would be a lot better from an investigative standpoint to know exactly what led up to the situation that you are watchi...

Reference point here. its pretty small. so the other device, i just dont know what that was. >> i think we have a slight delay, my apologies. but do the officers in training on your devices, do they know that that confetti goes out and many pieces of it go out into the location where its deployed? i ask that because if that officer knew that, it wouldnt matter if you place the taser beside the persons body. the forensics will prove that tasing happened many dozens of feet back. >> thats a very g...

The taser that michael slager used in his tussle with walter scott just may end up being a huge piece of evidence in slagers murder case. forensics may prove mr. walter scott did grab at that taser moments before being shot to death. thats what the officer said happened. this may be the model taser that slager used. its an x-26 taser. to be clear, the police are not revealing exactly which model mr. slager used. but he was trained on this one, on the x-26. the police department will not tell cnn...

Many holes in it that the forensics of walter scotts body would have showed such a different scenario that he would have still been in trouble. but we wont know that now, because there is the video. but how do we know he wouldnt have shot this man if he were white? you just feel that history shows us that? i mean when we look at the data kareem as you know you wind up having more whites shot than african-americans by police officers. but you believe that theres an easier standard? >> it is certa...

Dont know when the filming of the video stops, we dont know when more officers arrived, that somebody doesnt start it. >> of course youre right, the point is it didnt happen in the first two minutes. the video lasts two minutes, it didnt happen in those critical first moments of the injury. >> yes, we know that it didnt happen right away. and obviously theres discrepancies in the report. id like to add that this officer would not be in custody charged with murder were it not for this video. howe...

Its also similar to ferguson, police department that is predominantly white in an area with a lot of african-americans. >> what about shootings that were questioned by members of the community and otherwise, have they had a lot of them? >> theyve had some. the most interesting thing is the taser situation from as recently as two years ago. the thing is that it looked like excessive force. they never charged the man who was tasered. nothing happened to him. usually internal investigations in poli...

This tape? >> im just glad he did not. and we all are glad in this country, all of us who are watching this are glad he made the decision and had the courage to keep that piece of footage, and to share that footage appropriately, so that we all have this piece of effort which is -- had he not kept it all we would have had is just the word at this point of the officer, and the forensics evidence that would have been at the scene as well too, which could potential have been tampered with. >> my se...

Your thoughts on whats happening in south carolina and what national implications do you see happening here? >> obviously, as you and everybody around the table thinks, it was ghastly. i also think the young man who took the photographs, took that video tape is definitely a hero and should be hailed as one. i like to think it ultimately would not have wound up as a tie with the close call going to the cops because the forensics, particularly after an autopsy show the man was shot five or six tim...
