Fort Smith Times Record
A Fort Smith neighborhood group has raised concerns about speeding and a pilot program is in the works to see if traffic calming measures could impact it.
The Hillcrest & Park Hill Neighbors recently expressed their concerns about speeding on Country Club Avenue and South 23rd Street in a meeting with Fort Smith City Administrator Carl Geffken and Ward 1 City Director Jarred Rego.
Ken Kupchick, one of the residents, saw the need to push for the idea of traffic calming after a motorcyclist died in June 2017 on the corner of Highland and Country Club.
“The only things at our disposal are stop signs. Speed bumps are not something the city wants to do, and I can t say that I blame them, Kupchick said. You have to start looking at other conventional things like stepped up police patrol, but that just puts a Band-Aid on a wound for a short period of time and then you re back to where you were.
