Victim in auto-pedestrian crash dies one week later, charges filed against driver

MIDVALE – The victim of an auto-pedestrian crash on Fort Union Boulevard in Midvale on March 23 has died from his injuries. On Friday, the driver accused of hitting the man, Daniel Nelson Wilkinson, 47, of West Jordan, was charged in 3rd District Court with leaving the scene of an accident involving death and obstructing justice, both third-degree felonies; driving on a denied license, a class C misdemeanor; and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, an infraction. Wilkinson allegedly hit Craig Alan Waggoner, 67, with his minivan as Waggoner was crossing Fort Union at 900 East, according to charging documents. Witnesses told investigators that after the collision, Wilkinson stopped, got out of his minivan, bent over and lifted the arm of the pedestrian, then dropped it to the ground and drove away, the charges state.
