AmeriCorps Week offers an opportunity to recognize the commitment of the millions of Americans who have chosen to serve their country through AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors.

The Foster Grandparent Program offers seniors, 55 years old and over, the opportunity to work with students in local schools, or other non-profit agencies with children who need extra assistance. Typically school “Grandmas” and “Grandpas” work one-on-one with kids who need some extra support and love, as the website states.

Marion Maher is a volunteer with the Area Agency on Aging’s Foster Grandparent Program and has been paired with Ms. Sandra Balch’s kindergarten class at West Gate Elementary in West Palm Beach.
