Local animal welfare groups in Northeast Kansas have been awarded thousands of dollars in grant funds from the inaugural grant cycle of the Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation.

Currently there are 144 animals at the shelter, which includes 107 dogs. That's almost twice as many as the shelter can hold.

Jasper was welcomed into the Front Street Shelter after being diagnosed with kidney failure, neurological issues and lots of unknown medical problems.

The new nonprofit helps people get the help they need with reassurance that their beloved pets will be in good hands.

In a crisis, it can be hard for some people to take care of their pets, which is why a Nashville nonprofit is stepping up to help.

The nonprofit animal rescue found forever homes for 2,024 animals, increased its housing space by expanding its foster program and created a team-oriented, board-supported lab release program.
