What is troubling about Yves Engler’s column, The Push To Stop Israeli Military Recruitment In Canada (NOW Online, May 17), is that he completely ignores the modern scholarship proving the Jewish people’s ancient claim to the land dating back to the prophet Abraham. Palestine never existed. The term refers to what is now southern Jordan. In fact, the Romans used “Palestinian” to refer to a previous people known as “Philistines.” Palestinians are Arabs whose ancient origins include Saudi Arabia.

If you were previously unaware of what Minister s Zoning Orders (MZO) were, you ve likely heard the term lately due to the swirl of discussion about Ontario Premier Doug Ford s controversial use of them.
Through MZOs, the province can bypass due municipal processes before a new development is permitted processes that include things like public consultation meetings, in which residents and other stakeholders are given information about a forthcoming project in their community and can give their input.

Friends of the Foundry released design renderings on Wednesday in collaboration with local architects demonstrating what the future of the Dominion Foundry site could look like.
Community groups, local architects and designers have revealed design concepts for the much-contested Dominion Foundry that would preserve heritage elements while still providing affordable housing.
The designs – one was released February 24 in collaboration with community advocate group Friends of the Foundry and another was unveiled a day later – come after weeks of legal battles and protests over the Ford government’s plan to demolish the West Don Lands site.

A judge will rule on Friday whether or not the demolition of a downtown heritage site should be put on hold.
The City of Toronto is asking for an injunction to stop the provincial tear down of the Dominion Wheel and Foundry Buildings in the West Don Lands until the next council meeting at the end of February.
