The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

I’m almost convinced that winter is behind us. Almost. I’ve lived here long enough to expect anything, weather-wise, but this sunshine is hard to ignore. It may be a Monday, but with Memorial Day weekend just a few days away, hopefully this week will just fly by.

School is out in Carson City and the summer wasted no time in getting started with the fun stuff. Head down to Mills Park sometime this weekend to enjoy the Nevada State Fair, Rendezvous and Carnival. Carson Valley Days is an annual tradition for those who live in the Minden/Gardnerville area.

Though vaccines are rolling out throughout our region and businesses are reopening, we havent completely returned to the level of pre-COVID festivities. There are still events both in-person (masks required!) and online for you to celebrate Americas most well-known, sort-of-Irish Saint.

Summer is holding on for dear life, and sending a miniature heat wave our way for this long weekend. For those of you not in Black Rock City, the Carson City region offers plenty of recreation and entertainment.

The Fox Brewpub will be hosting a “Pint for Pint” blood drive with Vitalant on Aug. 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the blood mobile. If you give a pint of blood, the Fox will give you a free pint of beer in exchange.

Highway 50 Road Rally supports the organization Concerns Of Police Survivors. The Rally started in Colorado and traveled Highway 50 ending in Carson City on Thursday. They were welcomed by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.

Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. The long holiday weekend is over, but you can keep the good times rolling. The Fox Brewpub is hosting their monthly Whiskey Wednesday tonight, complete with raffle prizes and of course, whiskey.
