American Vacation: 12,000 Miles Into the Wild West

On Monday, May 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. central, the LaSalle Public Library will virtually host Illinois Author and Librarian, Raluca Barbu, for her unique program about her newly published book, “American Vacation: 12,000 Miles Into the Wild West.” <br/><br/>Barbu’s book pays homage to the great American outdoors and reminding readers of the amazing natural wonders found in the American West. It is the first book to tell the story of a writer, from an ex-communist country, who experienced the wide-open spaces of the emblematic American West. She and her husband traveled 12,000 miles for 45 days across 19 states. They visited 35 national, state, and tribal parks and hiked 170 miles, through breath-taking natural landmarks, from 260 feet below sea level to 14,000 feet of altitude. <br/><br/>In this virtual program, Barbu will share about her travel adventures and writing experiences, read from her book, answer questions, and present a slideshow photo presenta

ALSC supports 2021 Bound to Stay Bound, Melcher, and Spectrum Scholarships

CHICAGO – The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has awarded a total of 6 students the Bound to Stay Bound and Melcher Scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. Additionally, ALSC has sponsored 2 Spectrum Scholars and 1 additional Spectrum Scholar made possible through the generous support of Ellen Fader, 2005-2006 past-president.     Four recipients were awarded the Bound to Stay Bound Books scholarship, which is made possible by Bound to Stay Bound Books, Inc. All four recipients will receive $8,000 in scholarship aid for the 2021-2022 academic year. The four recipients are Molly Boehm, attending Longwood University; Dana Fanslow, attending the University of Illinois; Lindsay Robins, attending North Carolina Central University; and Scott Shaffer, attending Clarion University.
