Failure At UN Climate Summit Not An Option For The Pacific

Inclusive disaster risk reduction for more resilient Pacific - World

Inclusive disaster risk reduction for more resilient Pacific Format Suva – Strengthening inclusion is the pathway to preventing and reducing disaster and climate risk in some of the Pacific region’s most vulnerable and marginalised communities. In a Pacific-wide discussion, four speakers shared their reflections and experience on how to support and strengthen the climate and disaster resilience of women, children, and persons living with disability, all of whom are disproportionately affected during and after disasters. Ms. Noelene Nabulivou, Co-Founder and Director of DIVA for Equality, said that women and lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Intersex people (LGBTI) are often affected by disasters, but can also inform policy making thanks to their strong local knowledge and skills on the ground.

Pacific countries strengthen disaster finance strategies - Fiji

Pacific countries strengthen disaster finance strategies Format Suva – Pacific island countries are seeking to broaden and strengthen their disaster risk financing strategies as a key element of addressing the ongoing Climate Emergency. With climate change remaining the biggest threat – even in the era of a pandemic – there is a pressing need for countries to invest in financial protection measures to enable quicker and more effective response. It is an approach that represents an investment, not a cost, to save lives, protect livelihoods and reduce poverty in a time of escalating climate risk. This stronger approach to risk management, based on greater financial resilience, was the theme of the third webinar of Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP): ‘Expect the Unexpected: Saving for a Rainy Day.’
