WATERTOWN â State Assemblyman Mark C. Walczyk and Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie are joining a Rochester-area state lawmaker in calling on Attorney General Letitia A. James to investigate the death of city firefighter Peyton Lane S. Morse, who died Friday from a medical emergency he suffered while training at the state fire academy almost two weeks ago.
On Tuesday, Assemblyman Josh Jensen, R,C,I-Greece, sent a letter to the attorney general requesting that her office investigate the circumstances surrounding the medical emergency suffered by Mr. Morse as he was completing a mask confidence exercise March 3 at the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls, near Watkins Glen.
WATERTOWN â Peyton Lane S. Morseâs grandfather and great-uncle are demanding answers about how the young city firefighter died during a training exercise at the state fire academy almost two weeks ago.
Ronald Morse, Peytonâs grandfather, and his uncle Stan Morse are so angry about the circumstances regarding how the fire recruit died that they drove to the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls, near Watkins Glen, on Tuesday morning and picketed in front of the fire training school.
They carried signs that read the fire academy was âdangerous,â accusing instructors of not responding in a timely manner during the medical emergency in which Peyton was found unresponsive in the March 3 incident.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - 7 News has learned safety concerns were raised a year ago about the state training facility where a Watertown firefighter suffered a medical emergency and then later died.
A Rochester-area fire department voiced concerns about the same type of training Watertown firefighter Peyton Morse was doing last week.
The details are contained in a letter obtained by 7 News.
