FORT WASHINGTON, MD – The harness racing season comes to an end Wednesday evening at Rosecroft with a 14-race program highlighted by three $20,000 events for the top nine Maryland money earners in their respective categories.
First race post is 7:15 p.m.
The $20,000 Maryland Invitational, for the top nine Maryland preferred money earners this meet, will be led by Richard Malone Jr.’s 5-2 favorite Admiral Ballsy, who will leave from post 4. Right outside the 4-year-old gelding will be RockTavius, the 3-1 second choice.
The $20,000 Maryland Distaff has Vernon Cannon’s 5-2 favorite Psychic Blue Chip leaving from post one. The 5-2 favorite in the $20,000 Maryland Trotting Derby is Graham Grace Stables LLC’s Judge Bob, who drew post 8. Luckycompeter is 3-1 and will leave from post one.

Fort Washington, MD – Harness Racing is difficult enough under ideal conditions. Add in cold rain, a deep track, a minus two variant and you get a difficult night to do your business. As is the case with all horsemen, the show must go on and did Wednesday night (Dec. 16) at Rosecroft, as Jonathan Roberts secured five victories on the 14-race card.
Roberts swept the daily double for his sister, trainer Megan Roberts, as Sansa and Callmegaga picked up victories for Bib Roberts and Graham Grace Stables. He would also steer Thats Fun to a win for trainer Shaun Callahan and Breakaway Racing in the third race.
Veteran Allan Davis won three races
Ft. Washington, MD Developing future stars in harness racing can run in cycles. You can go for years at some tracks without young stars developing, and then there is the situation at Rosecroft, which best resembles the spin cycle of a washing machine right now.
Driving amongst a solid colony of veterans, the future of harness racing in the mid-atlantic has potential if these young bucks stay grounded and heed the lessons learned while driving in a competitive group.
Sunday night at Rosecroft, veteran Allan Davis won three races and several young understudies, none of which can legally drink an alcoholic beverage, each gained victories.
