New Delhi: Microsoft has unveiled a unique app called Group Transcribe that lets people capture real-time collective meeting transcriptions using their smartphones, including in Hindi.
A product of Microsoft s experimental division Garage, Group Transcribe uses a multi-device approach to provide real-time, high quality transcription and translation, so users can be more present and productive during in-person meetings and conversations. Group Transcribe allows us to address an authentic, ad-hoc, interactive mobile scenario to help people communicate without language barriers. Improving these models with usage data will ensure that our customers will have the best experience, said Xuedong Huang, Technical Fellow and CTO of Cognitive Services at Microsoft.

Microsoft launches ‘Group Transcribe,’ a transcription and translation app for in-person meetings
A new project from Microsoft’s in-house incubator, Microsoft Garage, introduces a different take on meeting transcriptions. While today there are a number of real-time transcription apps to use on your phone like Otter.ai or Google’s Recorder app for Pixel devices, for example Microsoft’s new Group Transcribe app reimagines meeting transcriptions as a more collaborative process, where everyone simultaneously records the meeting on their own device for higher accuracy. It also offers real-time translation for languages spoken in more than 80 distinct locales.
To use the app, one person would first initiate the meeting in their own device. They can then invite the other meeting attendees to join the session via Bluetooth, a scannable QR code or by sharing a link. After the other participants join the session and the meeting begins, each person will see the transcript appear
Microsoft s new Group Transcribe app is a multilingual tool for taking meeting notes, made exclusively for iPhone by the Microsoft Garage experimental team.
Microsoft Garage, the experimental research division of Microsoft, has released a free iOS-only app called Group Transcribe. Each person in a meeting runs the app on their iPhone, and it provides what Microsoft describes as real-time, high quality transcription of the conversation. There is healthy debate about the productivity of multi-tasking, writes Microsoft s Lainie Huston on a Microsoft Garage blog. Is it possible to take excellent notes while also being fully present in a meeting? Now, you don t have to choose between focus and productivity with our latest experiment, Group Transcribe, continues Huston.
