Waterloo region reports single-day record of 129 new COVID-19 cases Sunday
Waterloo region is reporting a record-high 129 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. One more person has died as a result of the infection. That means the virus has claimed the lives of 167 people in the region since the start of the pandemic.

Waterloo region is reporting a record-high 129 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The previous record was reported Dec. 30 with 112 cases.
There are 37 more active cases in the region, totalling 616.
One more person has died as a result of the virus. That means the virus has claimed the lives of 167 people in the region since the start of the pandemic.
KITCHENER Region of Waterloo Public Health officials reported another 71 COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The region s COVID-19 dashboard shows there were 61 cases in the past 24 hours, with other cases added to previous day s totals. That brings the number of lab-confirmed cases of the disease in the region to 5,899. Active cases dropped by 25 to 518 and 5,211 people have recovered from the disease. The number of deaths in the region remained unchanged at 165. There are currently 33 people hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 12 people in the ICU. There are 36 active outbreaks in the region, including a new one at a food and beverage service with three total cases.
Health officials have declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two schools in Waterloo Region. On the region s COVID-19 dashboard, there were two separate outbreaks listed at St. Dominic Savio Catholic School. One has two cases and the other has three.
KITCHENER There have been over 200 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Waterloo Region over the course of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Public Health did not update its online dashboard from Friday to Saturday, resulting in an accumulation of new numbers. On the Sunday afternoon dashboard update, there was also 228 more cases considered resolved, no new deaths, 18 less active cases, and one less patient being treated in the hospital and ICU. This brings the Waterloo Region COVID-19 totals to 5,595 confirmed cases, 4,824 resolved, 158 deaths, 611 active cases, 37 hospitalized, and 12 in the ICU. The total number of COVID-19 facility outbreaks in Waterloo Region went down from 29 to 28 over the Christmas stretch, but there were still plenty of declarations.
