Sixty-five suspected abalone poachers arrested in the Cape of Good Hope
All confiscated goods were booked in with the South African Police Service and a case of poaching has been opened.
Abalone poachers arrested
According to TMNP Park Manager, Frans van Rooyen, the arrests followed after a joint operation between TMNP Rangers, members of the South African Police Services (SAPS), and Cape Town law enforcement units.
Prior to the arrest of the abalone poachers last week previous joint operations conducted in January and February resulted in the arrests of 23 suspected poachers.
That brings the total number of arrests to 88. Back in January 2021, poaching rubber duck was confiscated and booked in with SAPS, followed by daily sea patrols in the Marine Protected Areas of TMNP

Cape Town - An operation between Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) rangers and police and Cityâs law enforcement units has led to the arrest of 65 suspected poachers in the Cape of Good Hope section of the park.
The arrests came after Forestry, Fisheries And Environment minister Barbara Creecy announced a security hub to act as a central point for reporting emergencies and the dispatch of security resources on the mountain.
TMNP manager Frans van Rooyen said the arrests and the 23 arrests during similar operations in January and February bring the number to 88 this year.

A joint operation between police, City of Cape Town law enforcement units and Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) rangers netted 65 abalone poachers this week.
According to TMNP manager Frans van Rooyen, the poachers were bust on Thursday night. Van Rooyen said the teams have been conducting daily sea patrols in the marine protected areas of the nature reserve “to fight against poaching that threatens the marine resources”.
Two other joint operations in January and February resulted in 23 arrests. One rubber duck was confiscated in January.

SANParks says 65 suspected abalone poachers were arrested in a joint operation with local authorities on Thursday night.
The suspected abalone poachers were arrested in the Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP), according to a statement by the South African National Parks (SANParks).
TMNP Park Manager, Frans van Rooyen, says the arrests are a result of yet another joint operation between TMNP Rangers and various units of the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the City of Cape Town law enforcement units.
SANParks says the suspected poachers were arrested on Thursday night.
The arrests are due to joint efforts by the police, City of Cape Town law enforcement and Table Mountain National Park.
SANParks says 88 suspected poachers have been arrested to date.
