Seven Fraunhofer Institutes have kick-started a project to better identify the carbon contained in plastics so that it can be recycled more effectively.
The Waste4Future project aims to create new opportunities for recycling plastics to make the carbon they contain available as a green resource for the chemicals industry.
It will look at developing new solutions, from the raw material base to material flows and process engineering, to the end of a product’s lifecycle.
There will be a particular focus on increasing energy and resource efficiency in the use of plastics, with the ultimate aim of helping the chemicals industry use fewer fossil-based materials and produce fewer emissions.
