FOR weeks we have been scouring the countryside – you could say from Bowes to Kolkata – in search of “binks”. A “bink” was a Yorkshire and Durham dialect word for a stone bench, often with a sink attached, directly outside a cottage door on which a milk churn was placed so that the housewife could make butter or cheese.
