A 54-year-old Missouri man died of vibriosis after he ate raw oysters he purchased from a seafood stand, authorities said.

The man reportedly got the oysters from The Fruit Stand & Seafood in Manchester, Missouri, according to officials.

The Department of Health announced that the man was infected by the bacteria Vibrio vulnificus, which is carried by oysters and other shellfish.

The bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, is typically contracted by consuming raw or undercooked oysters and other shellfish.

The St. Louis County Public Health Department said the man from Missouri was infected with Vibrio vulnificus - a disease triggered by consuming the bacteria Vibrio.
