Ex-fireman suspected of serial arson

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a former fireman who is suspected of serial arson, reports Fuji News Network (Dec. 31).
On December 25, Tomohiro Tanokura, 43, allegedly set fire to a grove of trees in the town of Hinode.
Upon his arrest, Tanokura told police, “I might have dropped a cigarette into a gutter.”

Since June, there have been several similar incidents that have taken place. Police are investigating whether Tanokura was also behind those cases.

Ibaraki police shoot, injure drunk man wielding knife during fight

IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Police shot and injured a 25-year-old man who wielded a knife during a fight in Kasama City on Wednesday, reports Fuji News Network (Dec. 30).
At just past 5:00 a.m., police received a call about a fight between two men at an apartment building.
Officers arriving at the scene found Kazuki Ikeda wielding a knife with a 40-centimeter-long blade during a fight with a second man.
After Ikeda refused to drop the weapon, one officer shot him in the back and side. He was then arrested on suspicion of violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.
Man, 28, suspected of setting fire to homeless man’s baggage

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly setting fire to the baggage of a homeless man in Taito Ward, reports Fuji News Network (Dec. 25).
At around 1:00 a.m. on November 5, Ryuji Kawasaki, of no known occupation, alleged set fire to the baggage of the homeless man near Ueno Park.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of arson and causing property damage, Kawasaki admitted to the allegations. During questioning, he told police he used a lighter to start the fire.
Police raid Supreme offices after director’s arrest for possessing stimulant drugs

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday raided the offices of the Japan-based sales company for fashion brand Supreme after the arrest of the director over the alleged possession of stimulant drugs, reports Fuji News Network (Dec. 23).
Officers entered the office in Shibuya Ward in search of evidence connected to the alleged possession of 1.1 grams of
kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs, by director Kenichi Omura.
According to police, Omura, 52, was in possession of the contraband in a waiting area at the love hotel Alpha In in Minato Ward just after midnight on December 18.
