Montreal, Quebec, December 15, 2020 â Fujitsu Americas was selected by the City of Montreal to help evaluate and optimize services to citizens using artificial intelligence (AI). Under a master contract awarded to Fujitsu Consulting (Canada) Inc. in 2019, the first work order was recently issued to Fujitsu to develop, automate, deploy and scale a predictive AI-based solution to dynamically manage traffic lights in the context of the Cityâs Traffic Response Plan.Â
Montreal has a total of 2,500 traffic lights with multiple systems to manage these in a dynamic manner. The objective of this project is to reduce traffic jams and improve traffic flows leveraging real-time data collected from the previous 15 minutes to predict the traffic for the subsequent 15 minutes, informing decision-making and helping the City take quick and decisive action to proactively reduce traffic-related issues before they occur.
