COVID-19: Tokyo reports over 3,700 cases amid Olympic 2020 ANI | Updated: Aug 04, 2021 05:56 IST
Tokyo [Japan] August 4 (ANI): Tokyo on Tuesday reported 3,709 new cases of coronavirus amid Olympic 2020 in the city while eighteen more people associated with the TokyoOlympics have been tested positive.
New cases had topped 3,000 for five consecutive days in Tokyo and doctors have also criticised the government s response to the increasing cases, Kyodo News reported.
Overall 12,017 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the country which is the second-highest single-day record.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga decided that only patients with severe cases of COVID-19 can be admitted to hospitals, making a policy U-turn.

Tokyo [Japan] August 3 (ANI): The Japanese government on Monday informed that it will tighten the borders for travellers coming from several countries including states of the US and Finland, the changes have been made to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Travellers from Georgia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Luxembourg and five Russian oblasts including Astrakhan would also have to go through the same process after their arrival in Japan, Kyodo News reported.
Travellers coming from these regions would have to stay in government-designated facilities for three days after arrival and take additional virus tests on the third day.
