Run for Excellence returns to Houma after cancelling last year due to COVID

After a one-year hiatus because of the pandemic, one of the area’s most popular events is back.  The Terrebonne General Medical Center Sports Institute Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence 5K run and walk is set for 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Houma.  The race is a major money maker for the foundation, a local group that gives grants to classroom teachers in Terrebonne Parish.     TFAE is celebrating its 30th year and the race is in its 20th year. The group has awarded nearly $1.25 million in grants to teachers since its beginning in 1991.  There will be an after party with music provided by Mike Levron Productions, food and drinks in the Hancock Whitney Bank parking lot, 7910 W Main St. But instead of a food fest like in previous years, participants will receive a coupon book from over 40 businesses, restaurants, bars and boutiques worth over $150.

Terrebonne Government Tower to reopen first floor Monday for first time since COVID-19 pandemic started

Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is beginning to level out, I want to make sure that my staff does everything possible to make all business transactions with the citizens of our great parish as easy and convenient as possible, Parish President Gordy Dove said in a news release. Residents who visit will need to wear face masks, stay six feet away from others and use hand sanitizers, requirements that remain in place under the state s COVID-19 measures. The entrances on Barrow Street and on Gabasse Street will be open. The one on Main Street will remain closed. Residents can still use the drive-through windows on the first floor of the tower s parking lot on Gabasse Street to pick up registration forms for all TPR sports programs or to pay the following:
