They will hold a hearing on Dec. 8 investigating the lobbying campaign that led to allegations that Justice Samuel Alito leaked the outcome of a 2014 decision.

The legal counsel for the U.S. Supreme Court is defending Justice Samuel Alito’s ethics following a report from the New York Times alleging that one of the justices dinner companions later passed along information about the outcome of an upcoming Supreme Court decision to an anti-abortion crusader.

The court acted as defense counsel in response to threats of congressional inquiries into its ethical lapses.
