The first initiative is a partnership between Dolly Parton s Imagination Library, a international book-distribution program started by the country singer, and the local group Gainesville Thrives. The effort aims to deliver a book once a month to children living in Gainesville’s 32609 ZIP code from birth to age 4.
Gainesville Thrives has funding for 120 children and already enrolled about 70, according to Linda Fuchs, the group’s founder and spouse of the University of Florida s president. The group is seeking sponsors to be able to distribute books to each of the 1,000 to 1,200 children living in the ZIP code.
Donating a year’s worth of home-delivered books to a child costs $27. Contributions can be made online at www.gainesvillethrives.org/dpil. Parents can also find a link there to register their kids for book deliveries.
