Emergency accommodation could be offered to residents with underlying health conditions living in areas affected by foul odours from a landfill site.
It comes as Newcastle Borough Council served a pre-action letter on Walleys Quarry Ltd as the first step towards taking legal action as residents continue to be afflicted by the stench.

Smells coming from the Walleys Quarry landfill continue to be above the annoyance levels according to the most up-to-date data from the Environment Agency (EA).
The EA and Public Health England have released air quality reports for April from four monitoring stations around the Silverdale area - in Silverdale Road, Galingale View, Silverdale Cemetery and Newcastle Community fire station.
