A United Nations helicopter carrying several passengers has been captured by terror group al-Shabaab after making an emergency landing in an area controlled by the group, a UN spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

Al-Shabab militants killed one person and abducted five others after attacking a United Nations helicopter that made an emergency landing in central Somalia.

Somali national forces in the area where a UN helicopter was captured by al-Shabaab fighters are continuing to search for passengers, Daud Aweis, Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism told CNN on Thursday.

The UN remains concerned about the fate of personnel travelling on one of its helicopters in Somalia that reportedly was seized on Wednesday by al-Shabaab militants, though no details were provided.

The minister of internal security of Galmudug state said the helicopter landed due to engine failure.
