Ohio's House of Representatives voted largely along party lines to override Gov. Mike DeWine's veto of the proposed SAFE Act that would ban gender-affirming care for minors and stop transgendered athletes from competing

The Ohio House, dominated by Republicans, easily voted Wednesday afternoon to override Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto of a bill that bans transgender medical care on minors and requires single-sex athletic teams.

The Saving Adolescents from Experimentation Act would ban gender reassignment surgeries and hormonal treatments on children.

The Ohio House, dominated by Republicans, easily voted Wednesday afternoon to override Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto of a bill that bans transgender medical care on minors and requires single-sex athletic teams.

DeWine vetoed the comprehensive bill – House Bill 68 –last month after it passed the state legislature by wide margins, opting instead to issue an executive order that simply bans gender-reassignment surgery on minors.

Republicans in the Ohio House of Representatives overrode the Governor's veto of a bill targeting gender-affirming care and trans athletes.

House Bill 68 would ban transgender youth from accessing gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers and hormone therapy.
