Gasoline prices in the US have soared, rising 17 cents in just one week, hitting another record high due to increased demand and rising oil prices.

The average cost of a retail gallon of gasoline hit $4.374 early Tuesday, according to the American Automobile Association, surpassing the former record of $4.331.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.37, up 17 cents in one week alone, AAA reported Tuesday - surpassing the prior record of $4.33 set on March 11.
