of major oil companies that control production in the united states and refining, transportation, and selling of gasoline. so that a very large percentage of that pricing piece is in their control of gasoline. and they also exercise a a large amount of control over the price of oil than we tend to give them credit for. i would say that the plan that is in place in the united states is one that had been and continues to be very, very good for the major oil companies and not particularly good at all for consumers or for the broader economy or for the environment or human rights or other issues that oil touches on quite closely. if the public were to create plan, what sort of plan would it be? i want to listen to sound from mitt romney i believe yesterday talking about energy prices and gasoline. the gas hike trio ought to resign. they ought to turn in their resignations. they were hired to raise the cost of gasoline and now the president says he wants on lower it.
director of national intelligence, dennis blair. then, the push toward november with former white house communications director anita dunn and former republican national committee chairman, ed gillespie. i m candy crowley, and this is state of the union. rick santorum understands he needs cochange the dynamic. the republicans are thinking about putting someone in the same positions as president obama up. if this election is about tweedle dee and tweedle dum, we will lose. as the focus changes to illinois where polls are close and romney is loaded for bear. santorum s real weakness is the economy. he s never run a business or a state. his plan, economic illiteracy, inexcusable, the worst idea of any gop candidate. joining me now, former senator rick santorum. thanks for being with us. i want to start out by asking about the new ad that mitt romney has up and running in illinois where you two will next meet after puerto rico. and in it he basically says, listen. y
afghans last weekend. he could be charged with those deaths as soon as this week. let s check in with dan simonen sadding by for us, live at louis mccord. that s where bailes was stationed for many years, dan. more on the attorney in a moment. you have been talking with a former neighbor, staff sergeant bailes. what are you learning about his life here in the united states? well, let me give you a little background. bailes and his wife held on to a condo that they used to live in. they were treating it as a rental property. we drove over to that neighborhood earlier today. the place is under foreclosure, we spoke to a neighbor who shared a wall with the bailes. he basically said he was aware the family was facing financial pressure, obviously because the place had gone under foreclosure, they couldn t afford their homeowner s association dues, $120 a year. the place has been in disrepair, the neighbor was with mowing the lawn, he said that robert bales was a really good guy
he s now decided gasoline prices should come down. well, the gas hike trio has been going in the other direction. time for them to go. probably hand in their resignations. if he s really serious about that and start drilling for energy here. whether that s oil, natural gas, take advantage of our coal resources for power generation. it s a very different policy that he s now talking about and i hope it s a real conversion. time will tell. you obviously feel the president s vulnerable on this issue. looking at the headlines over the past few days, you ve been hitting this hard. a number of diffenn talking about it a lot. this is obviously become a focus now of your campaign. less than a month ago in your speech at the detroit economic club, you didn t have one word about energy policy. the same was true in your victory speeches in new hampshire and florida and your speech in cpac. why not a word about that in those speeches and does it talk to a change in message and the power of this
