A GRADE 7 pupil from Protea South Primary School in Soweto collapsed and died in the classroom on Wednesday, 17 February.
An official report to the Department of Education indicated that the incident took place on Wednesday morning before lunch break.
It’s alleged that Sibongiseni Khoza felt dizzy and collapsed in the classroom shortly afterwards.
His teacher made multiple attempts to help him regain consciousness, while his mother was contacted and transported to the school.
Paramedics were also called to the scene for assistance.
But unfortunately, Sibongiseni was confirmed dead at midday.
The Gauteng Department of Education has appointed an independent investigative body to determine the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of Sibongiseni.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has appointed an independent investigative body to determine the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of Sibongiseni Khoza — a Grade 7 boy learner from Protea South Primary School in Soweto, Gauteng.
Schools recently reopened for learners on Monday 15 February 2021. Just last week, Lesufi said schools in Gauteng were ready to welcome learners back after a lengthy period of time. He said PPE’s, hand sanitisers, surface disinfectants, liquid soap, two face shields per educator and cloth masks had been delivered. He also said the feeding of about 1 545 562 learners would commence on Monday at all the relevant schools.
