New Orleans Friends of Music has been bringing the finest chamber musicians in the world to our community since 1955. In addition to a full season of public concerts at Dixon Hall, in partnership with Tulane University, NOFOM provides training and music education activities for both artists and audiences.
It is in Saint-Prex, near Lausanne in Switzerland, at the edge of the Leman lake, that an exceptional music festival has been held for several years, as much by the beauty of the site and the structure, as by the talent and the fame of the musicians who come to play in front of more than five hundred spectators. The acoustics, thanks to the balloon which makes the roof, are very beautiful. This cylindrical metal structure, topped by a gigantic helium-inflated bubble, will host two renowned artists on August 28, 2013: Yuja Wang, a pianist known worldwide for her technical virtuosity and daring playing, as well as Gauthier Capuçon the talented French cellist. They will perform two chamber music works together, first the Sonata for piano and cello No. 3 composed by Beethoven in the early 1900s, and then the Sonata for cello and piano in G minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff, written at the very beginning of the 20th century.
