Oakland wraps up a 3-3 homestand with a loss to the White Sox

Jake Burger hit his 18th home run and the Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 8-7 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. Zach Remillard added a two-run single and Eloy Jiménez had a pair of RBI singles as the White Sox finished their seven-game road trip 3-4. "We needed that one today," Burger said.

Tyler Wade slid into home with the winning run after second baseman Elvis Andrus misplayed a 10th-inning grounder, giving the Oakland Athletics a 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Oakland overcame 3-1 and 6-4 deficits to win consecutive games for the first time since a seven-game winning streak from June 6-13. The A’s, a major league-worst 23-62, won for the fourth time in 16 games and are on pace to finish 44-118.

Despite walking 5 batters, Oakland’s rookie starter Luis Medina held Chicago to just 1 run. The A’s scored 7 runs to defeat the White Sox in the first game of the weekend series.

But lack of leadership not an issue, Liam Hendriks says. “We have enough leaders in this clubhouse.”

Michael Kopech struggled mightily with walks, while Shohei Ohtani dominated both sides of the ball in the Sox' 4-2 defeat.

Shohei Ohtani's combination of power and pitching is unmatched by any player in baseball. Ohtani hit two homers and struck out 10 Chicago batters in the Los Angeles Angels' 4-2 victory over the White Sox, adding another extraordinary performance in what has been one of his best months since coming to the majors in 2018. Ohtani, who leads the majors with 28 home runs, hit solo shots in the first and seventh innings, the first time he has gone deep twice while also pitching.

“Unfortunately, we’re right at a .500 team, kind of going back and forth winning and losing,” right fielder Rob Refsnyder said. “We gotta figure it out.”
