Start-ups often receive mentorship, funding, and access to infrastructure from GCCs, facilitating the development and validation of their products and solutions. Some of the GCCs which actively engage with start-ups are Bosch, Honeywell, Adobe, NetApp, Cisco and Intel, among others.
Mumbai's GCC hiring in India slowed down in FY24, impacted by global uncertainties. Despite high attrition and talent demand, centers took a cautious approach. Experts attributed the slump to a cautious approach by companies since 2023 amid multiple global headwinds - inflation, geopolitical conflict, supply side challenges and high interest rates. Xpheno data show that with 16-18% average attrition, GCCs in FY24 had a gross talent demand for over 250,000 people.
"Even for the new talent who are aspiring for jobs in the IT industry, upskilling is now the real need and they have to invest in terms of expanding their own skill set.Almost 60% to 70% of the positions that we used to hire a year back used to be in .NET and Java. But those requirements have now come down to almost 50% whereas all the new requirements, new positions are asking for niche skills like AI and ML and transformative initiatives."
A new report by IT industry apex body Nasscom and Zinnov found that in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2023, India saw 10 new GCCs established, marking the entry of key MNCs like Edge Cortix, M31 technology Corporation, Signature IP into the Indian market. US-headquartered MNCs accounted for around 50% of the new GCCs.
