11,304 cameras monitor Sharjah round the clock to keep the emirate safe

Sharjah: Sharjah Police have completed the installation of 11,304 high-tech CCTV surveillance cameras in the emirate of Sharjah, officials said. Major General Saif Al Ziri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said the project to install surveillance cameras around Sharjah is now 60 per cent complete in Sharjah City, 20 per cent in the Central Region, and 20 per cent in the Eastern Region. The project’s coverage in Sharjah City accounts for 40 per cent, the Central Region for 10 per cent, and the Eastern Region for 10 per cent. He pointed out that the total number of surveillance cameras is 11,304, including 500 analytical surveillance cameras, 750 cameras that detect vehicle licence plates, and 10,054 early alarm warning cameras.

Mobile police station returns to Al Nahda, Sharjah permanently

Sharjah: Sharjah Police’s pilot mobile station in Al Nahda is proving to be a huge success. Colonel Yousef Obaid bin Harmoul, Director of the Comprehensive Police Centres Department, told Gulf News in exclusive interview that the station is being approached by people round the clock to make complaints and give their notices. The project was launched at the beginning of 2019 under the Safe Neighbourhoods initiative. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was moved to Wasit police station. In December last year, the station returned to Al Nahda but now it will stay there permanently due to the residents’ need. Sharjah’s Al Nahda has not recorded any serious crimes as the police could act swiftly on complaints, foil a number of thefts and even arrested a man wanted by security agencies over a financial case. Sharjah to set up COVID-19 field hospital for patients requiring intensive care

Sharjah: A field hospital for COVID 19 patients who require intensive care is being set up in Sharjah, the Sharjah Police chief announced on Wednesday. “We will be ready if required to receive infected cases that need intensive care in a field hospital in the emirate. The hospital will be constructed near Al Zahia area in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.” Major General Saif Al Ziri Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police and head of the local emergency crisis and disaster team in Sharjah, said. The official, who did not rule out the possible return of the sterilisation programme, said the hospital will be ready in less than a month.
