At the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event, Samsung unveiled its latest Galaxy S24 series, placing a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) in communication and camera features. This event marked a significant shift in Samsung’s focus, demonstrating a deep integration of AI technology in its new products.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra takes the fan-favourite smartphone and injects it with GenAI to deliver genuinely interesting new features.

The price of running generative AI is high, so it’s not surprising Samsung and Google have teamed up to power the new features in Galaxy S24 phones. This is the first use deploying Gemini Pro on Vertex AI to customers, for summarization in Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. It’s also using Imagen 2 for Generative Edit on photos, as well as Gemini Ultra for complex tasks and, like the Pixel 8 Pro, Gemini Nano as an on-device LLM.

Samsung may want Galaxy AI to become a valuable revenue stream for the company, but I’d be very surprised if consumers are as keen.
