Greece receives first upgraded S-70 Helicopter from US

On Thursday, Greece’s Navy marked the delivery of the first maintained S-70 helicopter from US manufacturer Lockheed Martin Rotary, Mission Systems and Aeroservices.
The inclusion of the 11 Aegean Hawk S-70 helicopters of the Navy in the program was made possible under the intergovernmental agreement between Greece and the US.
The deal allowed Greek aeronautics and aircraft maintenance company Aeroservices to participate in the program as the only certified repair company for this type of Sikorsky helicopters in Europe.

Greece’s Alexandroupolis Elevated to Strategic Importance for the U.S.

The port of Alexandroupolis in north-eastern Greece has assumed strategic importance for the U.S., the American ambassador to Greece said on Friday.
Geoffrey Pyatt, allied and Greek defense officials visited the port for the final phase of the inter-allied military exercise Defender-Europe 2021.
” width=”1080″>Alexandroupolis’ port authority supported the exercise and the hosting of U.S. forces.
Speaking to the Athens News Agency, the American diplomat said that his visit “is proof of our strategic commitment to northern Greece and of Alexandroupolis’ role as a military logistics hub, an energy hub, a regional access hub and a transport hub.”

Welcoming Fast Response Cutters Robert Goldman and Charles Moulthrope at Piraeus after a transatlantic journey, Pyatt said that maritime ties have been central to Greece-US relations since the first days of the Hellenic Republic.
Greece is the first country to have earned more than 2,000 AMVER Awards, the US Coast Guard’s global program supporting search and rescue authorities across the world, he noted.
The two officials also tossed a wreath into the sea, honoring the bicentennial of Greece s 1821 Revolution.
U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt laid a wreath at sea to honour those who have died defending democracy.
“As our countries celebrate 200 years of friendship, [I am] honored to lay a wreath at sea for those who have fought to defend the values and passion for democracy that unite us,” the ambassador said.
“We’re committed to upholding these ideals so the flame of democracy always burns bright!” he added.
